The Cantafio Collection, called “Magazine Cover Art”, is focused on collecting and preserving magazine covers, belonging to Lic. Juan Cantafio, and which nowadays has more than 400 thousand issues, which are kept and accumulated since the first magazine which has been given to him at the age of 8, by his paternal grandfather in 1970. It was an issue of the children magazine “Anteojjito”, which he stills preserves, and which would be the starting point of his acquaintance to these editorial graphic art objects.

Objects that are still perfectly kept thought time, and which are enormously increased in amount, including all kind of national and international original magazines, of all kind of gender and themes, dating from end of 19th Century to present time.

Since childhood, magazines not only have acquainted the collector with the world of reading and images, but also determined his professional career, having university and postgraduates degrees in Social Communication, Advertising, Journalism, Design and Creativity, as well as Artistic Production, Art, Media and Cultural Management.

 

The Cantafio Collection “Magazine Cover Art” is completely private and has never received any corporate or public support for maintenance or preservation, having the main purpose of becoming the Argentinean Museum of Magazine Art (Museo Argentino de Arte de las Revistas – MAAR), and being able to have the Collection as a permanent and travelling exhibition so that everyone could enjoy it, since magazines express contents and circumstances of the history, and this would also give us the possibility of approaching to the graphic art from the great illustrators, portrait painters and photographers to present day digital designs which allow incredible views though the use of technology.
