COVER ART

Editorial Graphic Art Exhibition
Legislature of Buenos Aires City
“Manuel Belgrano” Exhibition Room

From December 7th to 23rd , 2018

Since childhood, magazines not only have acquainted the collector with the world of reading and images, but also determined his professional career, having university and postgraduates degrees in Social Communication, Advertising, Journalism, Design and Creativity, as well as Artistic Production, Art, Media and Cultural Management; and this 2018 closing Exhibition at the Legislature of Buenos Aires art area is the first time some issues are shown to the Argentinean public.

His passion is still intact and strengthened with this opportunity of showing for the first time a small selection in this Exhibition, since nearly 100 issues over more than 400 thousand is just a small look, but which pretends to demonstrate the quality and variety of old and contemporary magazines, from different countries, showing facts, themes and personalities in order to present a sort of review of the diversity that these magazines have represented in the cultural field of the society; particularly until the digital editions end up to eliminate completely their existence as a tangible object and become just a digital intangible format.

The selection outlines local and worldwide emblematic magazines, highlighting some facts, art, sports, cultural or politic personalities who have been decisive to become a magazine cover. There are also classic and rare issues, as well as fairly unknown and iconic ones.

The professional criteria chosen for this selection considered the analysis known as R.O.I. (Relevance. Originality. Impact). Based on these three very clear and specific concepts to consider if an editorial, journalistic or advertising piece is creative or not, and if it can capture the reader’s approval, affect and inspire him.

Therefore, in general terms, many of us can interpret the same thing about a journalistic event expressed in an image or a headline of a magazine or newspaper cover; we could also laugh at a same joke or caricature, or turn down and get angry at a painful or cruel news that a journalistic photograph shows on those same covers.

The main idea is to show, in a small dose, an artistic and creative universe that a cover may express to stroll through its time, theme and creators, who have been working and thinking about “that to be shown” in each cover in order to hold the reader’s attention.

The main premise of communicational ideology is that “Everything Communicates”, and I hope this is expressed here on these themes, genders, origins and periods of time. I pretend that this journey through the graphic universe of magazines delights and dazzles you, makes you remember facts and personalities, entertains you and makes you laugh and think, while giving you some beauty with the images and the art of these universal creators.
